Here a fresh breeze from the Web Summit 2024, which brought together 71,528 attendees, 3,050 companies, and 953 speakers from around the world 😳

Obviously, AI dominated the agenda, shaping conversations around innovation, creativity, and the future of work.

With 42% women attendees and 44% women-founded startups, this year’s Summit wasn’t just about technology : it was about driving meaningful change and inclusion in the tech ecosystem.

🤿 Let’s dive into the major trends that emerged and what they mean for remote workers, facilitators, and creators like us.

🚀 AI : SMARTER, SMALLER, EVERYWHERE

AI continues to dominate the conversation, but this year was about how we use it— smaller, smarter, and for good :

• AI Everywhere : Thomas Wolf (Hugging Face) explained how the rise of micro-models will embed AI into every aspect of our lives, making tools more accessible and efficient.

• Unleashing creativity : From Anastasis Germanidis (Runway) simulating complex creative processes to Eddie Hsu (Music.ai) enabling instant music remixes and karaoke modes, AI is powering the creative industries in jaw-dropping ways.

• AI in Medicine : Sean McClain (Absci) showed how AI is transforming drug discovery, compressing five years of research into six months and even enabling brain transplantation modeling.

• Ethical Challenges : Daniela Braga (Defined.ai) posed a crucial question: Why should people pay for data they can find for free online? A stark reminder that as AI grows, its ethics must be just as robust.

AI is no longer just a tool : it’s a collaborator, empowering industries while demanding we consider its ethical and social impact !

🤝 REDEFINED COLLABORATION

Web Summit confirmed that the future of work is hybrid, inclusive, and powered by shared tools:

• Global teamwork : Tools like those presented by Nicole Sahin (G-P) showed how AI will manage employee lifecycles—from talent acquisition to offboarding—on a global scale, making collaboration seamless.

• Transmedia storytelling : Josh Liss (Dream Flare AI) revealed how AI is creating dynamic, co-created narratives that engage teams in entirely new ways.

• Breaking silos : Solutions like Miro’s Innovation Workspace and Unbabel’s AI-powered translation (presented by Vasco Pedro) highlighted the importance of creating shared platforms that unify teams across disciplines and languages.
