Remote Work Reality Check: 5 Myths We’re Retiring (With Love...and a Little Side-Eye)
Hi (R)emotes,
☕️ (R)emote Expresso is your weekly dose of creator insights on remote collaboration designed to fuel your day - Once a week in your inbox 💌

Hey Remote Rebels and Digital Daydreamers,
Remember 2020?
When remote work was either going to save civilization or end it?
Yeah. Turns out… it’s a little more complicated.
This week, we’re grabbing a double shot of perspective and busting some myths that still sneak into our Slack channels, LinkedIn posts, and late-night existential spirals.
Before we build the next era of work, we’ve got to drag a few outdated ideas into the sunlight - and lovingly set them on fire. 🔥
Here’s what we’re ready to leave behind (and what we’re building instead):

🚫 5 Remote Work Myths That Need to Go
☁️ Myth 1: Remote = Endless Freedom
Reality: Freedom comes with friction. Without boundaries, flexibility can turn into burnout faster than you can say “Zoom fatigue.”
We traded long commutes for never-ending workdays. Oops.
Quick Reframe: Freedom plus structure = sustainable joy.
📶 Myth 2: Good Wi-Fi = Good Collaboration
Reality: Fast internet can’t fix slow decisions, missing context, or a group calendar that looks like a Jackson Pollock painting.
You can have all the bandwidth in the world - if your team isn’t aligned, it’s just chaos at the speed of light.
Quick Reframe: Tech supports collaboration - it doesn’t create it.
🎉 Myth 3: Remote Work Killed Office Culture
Reality: Bad birthday cake and mandatory happy hours weren’t culture. Belonging, trust, and shared purpose are. And they travel really well.
If your “culture” fit in a conference room, it was never built to last.
Quick Reframe: Culture isn’t a place. It’s a practice.
🧑🚀 Myth 4: Remote = Isolation
Reality: For many of us, remote life opened the door to deeper, more authentic connections - even across oceans. (Shoutout to the Slack meme threads and virtual coworking jams keeping us alive.)
Loneliness is real - but remote isn’t the villain. Poor design is.
Quick Reframe: Remote connection is real connection - when we deliberately design for it.
🚀 Myth 5: Remote Was the Destination
Reality: Remote isn’t the prize.
It’s the platform.
What we build on it is what matters.
We didn’t “arrive” when we unplugged from the office. We’re still writing the map.
Quick Reframe: The future of work isn’t remote - it’s intentional.
